Ole Miss basketball is coming off a non-conference loss to the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State in a game which went to overtime. Can the Rebels bounce back against the Hokies?

Ole Miss basketball is now sitting at 4-2 on the season after losses to Utah and most recently South Dakota State. Today they have what may be their toughest non-conference opponent this season. The Rebels will welcome the Virginia Tech Hokies to The Pavilion in Oxford.

Virginia Tech is 6-1 and is coming off a huge 79-55 blowout over Iowa in the Big 10/ACC Challenge this past Tuesday. They also have a 103-79 win over Washington under their belt. The only loss coming to Saint Louis in the 2K Classic.

Coach Andy Kennedy knows this Virginia Tech team is loaded with talent. Much like the Rebels they have players who can get hot and stay hot. When you have a number of players who can easily score 20+ points a game it can be scary.  Virginia Tech is one of those teams.

As a team the Hokies shoot well. They shoot .561 from the field while forcing their opponents to take bad shots. From the arc they shoot .468 while shooting .748 from the charity stripe.

Of course, VT has 2 players who are averaging over 19 points per game. Justin Bibbs is averaging 19.8 points per game while Ahmed Hill averages 19.6 per showing.

Freshman Nickeil Alexander-Walker has emerged as a consistent scorer so far this season. The 6’5″ guard averages 15.1 points per game for the Hokies and has had several games with 20+ points.

Can Ole Miss Bounce Back?

This team is loaded with outside shooters but can play defense as well and are deadly in the key. They are tall and rangey and can rebound well. This will be a very physical game underneath the basket.

Vriginia Tech also plays aggressive on defense and can create turnovers. Of course, this could prove to be problematic for the Rebels. The Rebels have to play a clean game on both sides of the ball. Foul trouble will be a killer for one of these teams. Hopefully the Rebels play with the sense of urgency which was missing in the past game and get the win today.
