Ole Miss football fans have been hearing about possible transfers for the past few weeks. Now there are players who have actually elected to take visits.

Ole Miss football fans had already known about Shea Patterson taking a visit to Ann Arbor this weekend. Well it actually happened. Shea and two others were in attendance at a Michigan Wolverines basketball game on Saturday. It’s really no big surprise to many of us but we had hopes it wouldn’t happen.

Wide receiver Van Jefferson and safety Deontay Anderson were also present in Ann Arbor with quarterback Shea Patterson. It appears this will be the preferred landing spot for these three transfers from Oxford. Of course, we expect there will be others. However, there may not be the ‘mass exodus’ which has been predicted’

So it appears we’ll be losing some very talented players to Michigan. I don’t blame any of these players for doing what’s best for them in their careers. However I feel it’s a complete bush league hack job by coach Harbaugh. Harbaugh obviously hasn’t lived up to the high Michigan standard which is expected on the field. Now he’s grasping at straws and Ole Miss talent.

The Seat In Ann Arbor Is Hot

While sitting on a hot seat coach Jim Harbaugh has been desperate to make a quick fix. Getting three or more players from the Rebels certainly vastly increases the talent level on the Wolverine team and possibly saves Harbaugh’s job next season.

Of course, if the plan doesn’t work out for the Wolverines head coach Harbaugh may be out of the picture and leave these three players in the situation of playing for their fourth head coach in three seasons.

It’s already being rumored Harbaugh has been  contacted by several NFL teams for the head spot in their organizations. I doubt Harbaugh goes back to the NFL by choice, however he might if the heat on his seat in Ann Arbor doesn’t subside.

Of course, we can’t be sure if there have been commitments by any of the three players who are on the Michigan campus. However, there are reports Patterson has been listed within the student directory which means he has already enrolled for classes at Michigan. If that’s the case then we can fully expect a Patterson commitment coming soon. There are reports Anderson is expected to commit this weekend during their 48 hour visit in Ann Arbor.

What This Means For Ole Miss

Besides losing talented players to Harbaugh it simply solidifies most of the rumors we’ve heard about transfers. We knew we could expect a few to want to get out of Dodge but now there is a liklihood of even more. While some media pundits have stated it could be 7 or more, maybe it won’t be much worse.

With what this team has had to endure thru everything else, this is tough to go thru. Transfers hurt the morale of a team from the inside. Of course, it can literally tear a team apart in a relatively short time. From a locker-room point of view it can have a brush fire effect. However, right now I believe the core of this Rebels team is tight.

Head coach Matt Luke is now the guy and we can expect his love and passion for Ole Miss football to be contageous. Being a strong part of Ole Miss family will bleed over into the core of this team and strengthen every player left on this roster when the transfer dust settles.

Next: Nuke The NCAA!

Will there be more coaching poachers who court potential transfers? Oh of course there will be more. The nature of college football today is to do whatever you can to beef up your program. Even when it means poaching players from other disadvantaged teams. Good luck with that bush league coaches across the nation. Hotty Damn Toddy!
