Ole Miss Football: Some Rebels Holding True To Ole Miss
It’s been hard for Ole Miss football fans to digest much of what has been going on in the college football world of transfers and transfer rumors.
As a diehard Ole Miss football fan myself I know how tough it can be right now. If you’re like me you probably read whatever is written or said about Ole Miss football. Lately, for the past 5 years really, we’ve been dragged thru the mud by a number of well-known college football pundits. Of course, it’s been no different over the past couple of weeks. The transfer talk coming out of every fan site on the internet has been relentless.
The other day I did a piece on possible transfers headed to Michigan. Based on reports by a Michigan Wolverines fan site there were supposedly at least 7 players which Jim Harbaugh had made contact with while in Oxford this past Wednesday. Of course, we now know exactly who three of those players were.
The other four players mentioned within the piece were Greg Little, Breon Dixon, Justin Mathis and Bryce Mathews. Well Wednesday Bryce Mathews shot down the rumors of his possible transfer to Michigan on social media.
Ole Miss Rebels Football
This is great news for Ole Miss football and could be a catalyst for other players to stand up for their team. No it doesn’t make sense for this team to be torn apart by ‘bush league’ tactics from other teams staffs.
It certainly doesn’t make sense for any player to feel like they have to reaffirm their loyalty to their own team. However, in this case it made Rebel nation feel much better.
Of course, sometimes the rumors get more attention than they really should. Especially when it comes from some of the anti-Ole Miss media pundits.
They spend way too much time hating Ole Miss and will embellish each and every Rebels blemish. Such was the case in this instance.
Of course, there have been other players who have noted their allegiance as Rebels. However, Bryce Mathews is the first player thought to be a serious potential transfer to strike down the transfer rumors.
Another Rebels who used social media to extinguish transfer rumors was sophomore TE Dawson Knox. The best thing any of us can do is take each and every beat of the rumor mill with a grain of salt.
In Closing
Like I noted in the ‘fact vs fiction’ piece the other day. There are facts which we can be sure of. However there are also the pieces of fiction. Of course, I hate Bryce Mathews was a product of fiction in this case. I thank Bryce for being true to Ole Miss and this Ole Miss football team.
This Ole Miss football program is going to be ok, especially with players like Bryce. There will be more players who wind up declaring their allegiance to this team. The core of this team will still be strong in Oxford regardless of what happens in Ann Arbor or anywhere else. Of course, at least in this case, Harbaugh won’t be getting one player for sure. Hotty Toddy!
