Ole Miss basketball traveled to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies. The Rebels road woes continued as the Aggies picked up their first SEC win.

Ole Miss basketball (10-8, 3-3) was sitting in a good spot with the midweek game against TAMU coming up. Of course, the Rebels needed a good road win under their belt. However the Aggies were not about to lose a sixth consecutive SEC game and especially not at home.

The Rebels fell behind early in the first half and trailed the Aggies 45-37 at the break. Ole Miss played much better in the second half and even outscored the Aggies 32-26. However it wasn’t enough to secure the win. The game came down to a final shot by the Rebels. However, the Rebels fell 71-69 in College Station as the Aggies (12-6, 1-5) picked up their first SEC win.

Of course, the only number which really matters is the final score. However we look at the stats to get an idea of how well or poorly the teams played. The Rebels were out-shot by the Aggies from the field. Ole Miss shot 27 of 59 for 48.5% while the Aggies went 29 of 57 or 50.8%.

At the charity stripe the Rebels had the advantage over the Aggies. Ole Miss hit 10 of 13 for 76.9% while TAMU struggled at the line hitting only 8 of 16 or 50.0%.

Once again the Rebels shot poorly from three-point distance. Ole Miss hit only 5 threes on 21 attempts for 23.7% while TAMU shot slightly better from the arc going 5 of 16 for 31.3%. The Rebels made some poor decisions from distance and would have been better to pull the ball down and work into the paint.

The Rebels did out-rebound the Aggies 34 to 33 and had 11 second chance points as a result. The Rebels bench once again made a significant contribution with 25 points in the game.

Rebels Individual Numbers

For the second consecutive game Bruce Stevens led all Rebels scoring with 20 points. Stevens also had 9 rebounds and 3 assists in the game. Two other Rebels scored in double-digits. Terence Davis had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal. Breein Tyree added 11 points while accounting for 5 rebounds and a steal.

Deandre Burnett scored 7 points while getting 2 boards to go with 8 assists in the game. Marcanvis Hymon added 6 points and 1 rebound. Devontae Shuler added 5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in only 13 minutes on the court. Markel Crawford had 4 points and 1 steal. Justas Furmanavicius and Dominik Olejniczak each added 2 points. Furmanavicius also added 1 assist despite only playing 5 minutes in the contest. Olejniczak had 2 boards and 2 blocked shots.

This team has struggled on the road this season and it doesn’t get any easier for Ole Miss basketball. The Rebels stay on the road this Saturday as they travel to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. Of course, the Rebels need a road win in the worst way and Arkansas will be a tough place to do it.

The Razorbacks (12-6, 2-4) are a good fundamentally sound basketball team and of course Bud Walton Arena will be rocking. The Hogs are 9-1 at home thus far into the season. Coach Andy Kennedy and the Rebels have their work cutout for them Saturday afternoon. Tip off is set for 2:30pm CT and the game will be televised on the SEC Network. Hotty Toddy!
