Former Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze has been back in news lately amid discussion for the offensive coordinators job at Alabama. We discuss it in this Grove Grinder.

Most Ole Miss football fans were surprised by the latest news of former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze. Apparently he is considered the front-runner for the offensive coordinators job at Ole Miss. Of course, this was met with ire by some Rebels and Crimson Tide fans. Some people simply can’t forgive the man for his indiscretion while overall the public perception has improved for Hugh Freeze since late July.

There have been rumors swirling since the COI ruling which allowed Freeze to work immediately as a coordinator. Of course, there were some saying he was consulting for Kirby Smart at Georgia. There were LSU fans hoping and praying he would take Canada’s spot as OC there. Freeze is a great coach and now that Alabama needs a new coordinator Nick Saban may just pull the chain on hiring Freeze.

Saban Is Smart

Saban is a football genius. At Bama he is a college football king and mastermind of one of the greatest football dynasties ever. He also knows how to play his cards several moves ahead and benefit the Alabama program.

There has not been another head coach in the SEC to be such a thorn in Saban’s side. Freeze beat Saban in back-to-back seasons and NCAA hell and damnation rained down on the Ole Miss program.

All of the sudden we were without Hugh Freeze and looking at NCAA sanctions. You can call me a conspiracy theorist but it is ironic. Saban has long been known to use his connections thru Mark Emmert and the NCAA. Now he has Greg Sankey wrapped around his finger too.

Really the only thing Nick Saban has to worry about is being out-coached and that rarely happens. However, it has happened. Would  Saban rather have Freeze on his sideline or an opposing sideline? I believe we know the answer.

Funny Thing About Irony

Irony which is in your face can be a funny thing. Oh I remember some of the stuff which Bama fans were saying about Freeze just a few short months ago. Now many of those same bammers are hoping Saban hires Freeze for the offensive coordinators position. Of course, they believe he’d be the best thing at Alabama since sliced bread and paternity tests.

It’s a scary thought for Ole Miss football fans however. Can you imagine what Hugh Freeze could do with the talent which Bama has on the offensive side of the ball? Hugh Freeze is also known to get the best from his quarterback. Now Alabama has a young quarterback for Freeze to help develop.

Next: Nuke The NCAA!

At this point we can’t be sure if Saban will make the call to hire Freeze. However, it is great to see Hugh Freeze get back in the college football coaching mix and makes for a great story. Of course, the bammer irony is the best part. I’s totally worth seeing the Bama fans change their tune about him. Hotty Toddy!
