Ole Miss football fans already know we have the nations best wide receiver. Now Athlon has recognized him as one of the best returning players in the nation.

AJ Brown has been a phenomenal wide receiver for Ole Miss football. In his brief Rebels career he has become a player who will undoubtedly go down as the greatest receiver in Ole Miss history. In his sophomore season AJ Brown stepped into the spotlight as the best receiver in the SEC and one of the top in the nation. In 2018 we believe we can also expect great things from AJ.

Each college football off-season Athlon releases a variety of rankings. Of course, Athlon is well-known for their rankings and are very well-respected. Earlier today Steven Lassan of Athlon released his ‘top 50 returning college football players in 2018‘ rankings. One of only three receivers in the Top 50 AJ Brown made the list at No.23. Congratulations AJ and Hotty Toddy!

Should Be Ranked Higher

First, AJ Brown is totally deserving of making the Top 50 best college players in the nation. However, he should be ranked much higher. AJ was solid the entire season despite seeing two different quarter-backs and double coverage.

AJ caught 75 passes for 1,252 yards and 11 TDs. Of course, I’m biased. However, the numbers do speak for themselves when compared to the other two returning receivers who made the list.

N’Keal Harry of Arizona State made the list at No.48. Harry had 82 receptions for 1,142 receiving yards and 8 TDs. The highest ranked receiver to make the Athlon rankings is David Sills of West Virginia who made the list at No.21. Sills had 60 receptions for 980 yards receiving. Sills did have a FBS leading 18 TDs.

Of course, as Ole Miss fans we question why AJ is ranked where he is. However, we know we have the best receiver in the nation at home in Oxford on the Ole Miss campus.

Ready For 2018 And AJ

Of course, when you are a Ole Miss fan it’s easy to get excited about the upcoming 2018 season. With a player like AJ Brown in coach Phil Longo’s wide open offense you know you’ll see some great plays. AJ Brown is obviously the best wide receiver in the SEC by far. Of course, there is a strong argument based on the Athlon rankings he should be ranked the best in the nation. After 2018 he will be.

Next: An Early Look At 2018

AJ Brown fans won’t have to wait long to see him back in action with spring practice just around the corner. Of course the Grove bowl will soon be here and we’ll get a taste of what to expect from AJ and the Rebels. Ole Miss football will open its 2018 campaign September 1st in Houston, Texas against Texas Tech. Hotty Toddy!
