Between Ole Miss football recruiting and dodging bullets from rivals it has been a very busy week for many of us. We address it all in this Grove Grinder.

Besides the actual Ole Miss football season, this is the most exciting time of year for many of us die-hard fans. Of course, this time of year heats up the banter between rivals across the nation and especially among in-state rivals. Recruiting between Ole Miss and Miss State is certainly a perfect example.

College football recruiting in Mississippi has become so toxic there have been all sorts of fake claims made by fans of both schools. We’ve all heard the claims from the TSBU smear campaign about the Ole Miss ‘bagman’. They fear the ‘bagman’ from ‘The Network’ worse than the boogeyman. Ironically, MSU was the school with Leo Lewis who flashed cash after signing with the pound pups.

So of course as recruiting heats up going into the final weekend of signing day there will be plenty of trash talking each others programs. Neither team will finish much ahead of the other with their final signing day tallies. It’s been a much better year for Ole Miss recruiting than most expected. With Mullen leaving Miss State for Florida it is has definitely set back what State College fans had expected. Still there is much for both schools to look forward to heading into this last weekend of officials on both campuses.

Anticipation And Excitement

So far this recruiting season as far exceeded my expectations. Of course, after everything which has happened to Ole Miss football a good signing class is very welcomed. Coach Matt Luke and this staff have dedicated themselves to building a great class and so it has shown.

After the early signing period success we’ve seen them continue to recruit the top prospects very hard and we’ve seen the results. Ole Miss football recruiting had 3 commits this past week who had been on official visits in Oxford. Now with the final weekend before National Signing Day we are excited to see just how well we finish out.

As of today there are now 7 scheduled officials for this weekend in Oxford. Tylan Knight, a RB out of Pearl was just offered and said to be taking his official to Ole Miss this weekend. Knight is a very exciting player who is currently committed to UL-Lafayette.

Of course, there was a couple of cancellations for this weekend at Ole Miss. 4-star TE Michael Exeike and 3-star SDE John Mincey will both be no-shows in Oxford this weekend. Of course, the last-minute scenarios change in college football recruiting constantly. However, it’s just part of recruiting which adds to the excitement.

The Final Countdown

To say we are excited to see how this recruiting class finalizes is an understatement. With what we’ve seen so far we are fired-up about the job Matt and Luke and staff have done. Of course, we want to see this class finish out strong and I believe we will. With National Signing Day this coming Wednesday we may not hear much more news for the next few days. However, I do believe it will be really good news.

Next: Final NSD Predictions!

OHT has been trying our best to search out new information regarding recruiting and will continue to do so. Who knows maybe we’ll finally figure out who the ‘bagman’ from The Patchwork in Starkville really is. Here’s to a strong finish for the 2018 recruiting class. Hotty Toddy!
