Coming off a season opening weekend sweep of Winthrop Ole Miss baseball is hosting a midweek match-up against rival Memphis.

No.9 Ole Miss baseball (3-0) is on a role after the sweep of Winthrop this past weekend. Of course, the upcoming game against Memphis may provide just a bit more competition. Memphis (2-1) comes into Swayze Field off an opening weekend series where they took 2 of 3 from Western Kentucky.

The Ole Miss and Memphis baseball series stands 93-54 in favor of the Rebels. However, the Memphis Tigers are always a formidable opponent. In the last meeting between the two schools the game went 11 innings and ended in a 2-1 victory for Memphis. Nothing would make them any happier than to knock off No.9 Ole Miss. It will be a great game.

Probable Starting Pitchers

More from Ole Miss Baseball

Oxford native sophomore Houston Roth is expected to get the nod as starter from coach mike Bianco for this game. Roth, who was a Freshman All-American in 2017 is a right-hander who can bring heat. Last season Roth went 28.2 innings on the rubber with 41 Ks. He went 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA last season.

Rebels hitters will face left-hander Danny Denz who was 1-1 in 2017 with a 4.71 ERA in 21.0 innings pitched. Memphis has a talented bullpen and aren’t afraid to use it.

What We Want To See

Of course, first and foremost we want to see Houston Roth pitch well on the mound. So far in three games the Rebels pitching corps has been outstanding. We want to see Roth get off to a good start and go deep into the game if at all possible. If he comes out hot we will likely see that happen.

We also want to see some solid infield play from the Rebels. Coach Mike Bianco’s teams historically have always been error prone so we don’t want to see the errors. Of course, if they can play hard support for Roth and he pitches well they may only worry about offense.

Next: Season Predictions!

Of course, we don’t have to wait for long to check out Ole Miss baseball. The Rebels will host the Memphis Tigers at Swayze Field Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4pm CT. The game will be televised via the SEC Network+. Good luck to coach Bianco and the Rebels. Hotty Toddy!
