Ole Miss Baseball: Rebels Host Weekend Series Against Tulane
Ole Miss baseball is coming off a big midweek win over the Memphis Tigers and have their plate full this weekend against Tulane.
The No.9 Ole Miss baseball team (4-0) is setting in a very good spot. Coming off an opening series sweep against Winthrop and a midweek win over Memphis has Ole Miss baseball fans wanting more. Of course, we don’t have to wait for long as the Ole Miss Rebels will be back in action today against the Tulane Green Wave.
The Green wave are a very well coached team who could provide a speed bump in the Ole Miss schedule. The Green Wave out of American-Athletic Conference are a perennial powerhouse on the dirt diamond, The Green wave are currently 3-0 with a series sweep over Wright State. The Rebels will have their hands full.
With the first game Friday being postponed during the 5th inning because of inclement weather, the game will be finished today. The Rebels lead 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th. The fist game is scheduled to resume at noon with the second game to follow shortly after. We’ll take a look at the pitching match-ups.
Starting Pitchers
Sophomore left-hander Ryan Rolison was the Friday starter of course. He picked up where he left off last weekend pitching very good thru 5 complete inning. Rolison did give up a solo homer early in the 1st and then was lights out striking out 9 and allowing only 2 walks. We have to wait and see if Rolison continues in this game but it is doubtful with him only going 5 innings in his first start.
Junior right-hander Brady Feigl will handle the start for the Rebels in game 2 with sophomore right-hander James McArthur getting the start in game 3. So far the Rebels pitching staff has been outstanding. The three Rebels starter have allowed only 1 unearned run on 11 hits in 16 innings and have rung up 25 Ks.
What To Expect
Right now Ole Miss baseball is on a roll and it has shown up at the plate so far this season. As a team the Rebels have hit well and are posed to have a great season if they can continue to hit. Sophomore Grae Kessinger has improved greatly from last season and has adapted well to the lead off role for the Rebels.
Of course, the Rebels lineup offers some of the best talent in college baseball. Junior Nick Fortes batting 3rd and sophomore Thomas Dillard in the clean up spot have both been striking the ball well and should be primed to have big series. Junior Chase Cockrell, sophomore Cole Zabowski and freshman Tim Elko have all been hitting good as well in the 6th, 7th and 8th spots.
With the pitching staff which coach Mike Bianco has the Rebels can be very successful should they continue to hit the ball. Of course, we look for the more experienced Rebels to step up at the plate as well. Once senior Will Golsan and junior Ryan Olenek get cranked up these Rebels could be unstoppable.
Ole Miss baseball will continue the series with Tulane today at 12pm CT with the completion of Game-1. Game 2 will follow after a short intermission. Good luck to coach Mike Bianco and the Rebels! Hotty Toddy!
