Ole Miss basketball may be sitting at home during the postseason but there is still a lot of interesting activity surrounding basketball right now.

It wasn’t easy being a Ole Miss basketball fan this season and it’s been a pretty rough postseason knowing such a talented team has been sitting at home. Of course, there has been plenty of activity surrounding the Ole Miss program in recent weeks and it will really heat up as we move toward April 11th. April 11th is the beginning of college basketballs final signing period.

Now that we don’t have to share our new head coach with MTSU Davis will be able to completely focus on Ole Miss. Coach Davis was coaching the Blue Raiders through the NIT Tourney and were eliminated by Louisville 84-68 Sunday night. There were a lot of Ole Miss basketball fans hoping to see coach Davis possibly face his former college team Miss State, however Davis will have to wait a little longer to face the team he formally played for.

In the coming weeks, Davis will have to finish filling out his permanent staff, get a grip on the roster and focus on recruiting. To say Kermit Davis will be busy is an understatement. I’m fairly certain he might even want to watch a game or two in the next couple of weeks. Yes coach Kermit will be very busy but, finally at least, he is all ours. Of course we are anxious to see how things flow for the program. Now, onto other basketball stuff.

Busted Brackets!

Ole Miss Rebels Basketball

After the first two rounds of the NCAA Tourney there have been plenty of exciting moments. There have been some shockers, some jaw-droppers and a few teams which decided to play their very best basketball. Of course, all of the above leads to a lot of butt-hurt basketball fans on Monday morning. It also leads to a lot of busted brackets.

So far my bracket is not busted but it has been severely bruised and battered. In the first round there were a couple of shockers. The SEC losses were surprising from the level of play we had seen during the regular season. No.7 seed Arkansas fell 79-62 to No.10 seed Butler and #8 seed Missouri fell 67-54 to #9 Florida State.

Of course, Florida State sent one of my Final Four picks packing with their 75-70 defeat of No.1 seed Xavier. In the second round No.3 Tennessee lost a heart-breaker to No.11 Loyola. No.4 seed Auburn got hammered 84-53 by No.5 seed Clemson. Those two losses were shockers. However, the biggest story for the SEC is the tourney play of No.7 seed Texas A&M as they defeated No.2 North Carolina 81-65 to make the Sweet-16. No.9 seed Alabama got manhandled by No.1 seed Villanova 81-58 which was really no surprise.

Still More To Come

There is plenty of NCAA basketball to be played. Just ask our rivals from TSBU about basketball postseason play. Nevermind, you probably don’t even have to ask. After the baseball team being swept in their new stadium by Vandy, basketball is about all they have. At any rate, good luck to both State College teams in their hoops tournaments.

Of course, the SEC will be back in action Thursday as the Sweet-16 begins. No.5 seed Kentucky will face No.9 seed Kansas State while No.7 seed Texas A&M faces No.3 seed Michigan. Oh yeah, there will be more news surrounding Ole Miss basketball coming soon. Stay tuned to OHT, or follow us on Facebook and twitter and get the latest updates. Hotty Toddy!
