No.4 Ole Miss baseball was back in action Tuesday night in a midweek rivalry game against No.12 Southern Miss at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

After coming off a SEC series loss to Miss State No.4 Ole Miss baseball would get no rest in the midweek game. No.12 Southern Miss would be waiting in Pearl for the Rebels Tuesday night coming off a series win over Western Kentucky. Of course, Ole Miss needed to bounce back after the past weekend and would make a statement Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first frame, the Rebels exploded in the top of the 2nd with 6 runs. The Rebels didn’t look back and added another run in the top of the 4th to take a 7-0 lead into the 5th. USM made a rally in the bottom of the 5th with 3 runs to cut the Rebels lead to 7-3. In the top of the 8th the Rebels added an insurance run to extend the lead to 8-3. Ole Miss added 3 more runs in the top of the 9th to get the 11-3 win.

The Rebels bounced back in a huge midweek performance against another ranked team in USM. Southern Miss has proven to be a very formidable opponent for in-state teams and swept once ranked Miss State earlier this season. After a stumble and fall this past weekend this was a well received response for Ole Miss baseball. Of course, there is a lot more baseball to be played so for now we’ll look at this huge win by the numbers.
