No.4 Ole Miss baseball was back in action on the road Friday night against No.15 Vanderbilt in game-one of the weekend series.
No.4 Ole Miss baseball entered the weekend series with No.15 Vanderbilt coming off and impressive midweek win over No.12 Southern Miss. After losing the series with Miss State last weekend the Rebels needed to make a huge statement in this weekend series. Vanderbilt was entering the series coming off a 3-2 midweek win over Western Kentucky.
The Rebels wasted no time and got on the board first with 1 run in the top of the 1st. The Dores responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the frame and led 2-1 after the 1st. Ole Miss added 3 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead into the 4th. With the score 4-2 Rebels entering the 6th the Rebels added 2 runs to extend their lead to 6-2.
Ole Miss then added 1 run in the top of the 7th to extend the lead to 7-2. Vandy cut the Rebels lead to 7-3 with 1 run in the bottom of the 7th. However, the Dores couldn’t get anymore production. The Rebels added 3 runs in the top of the 8th and 1 more run in the 9th to secure the 11-3 win.
The win was big for Ole Miss to lead off the Vandy series on the road. The win was also the Rebels 4th consecutive with 14 or more hits and shows the Rebels are producing at the plate. Of course, this was just the first game s we have much more baseball to be played. For now, we’ll look at this game by the numbers.
