After a huge game-one win on Friday night No.4 Ole Miss baseball would find itself in a double-header showdown against No.15 Vandy on Sunday.

Because of inclement weather in the Nashville area Saturday No.4 Ole Miss baseball (29-7, 8-6) was back in action Sunday in a doubleheader with No.15 Vanderbilt (21-14, 8-6). The Rebels soundly beat the Commodores 11-3 in game-one Friday night and had momentum heading into Sunday. However, they would have their hands full with the Dores in both 7-inning games.

After a scoreless first three frames the Dores got on the board first with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th. The Rebels responded with 1 run in the top of the 5th to cut the lead to 2-1 Dores. The Rebels then added 1 run in the top of the 6th to tie the game at 2-2. However, the doors extended the lead to 5-2 with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th.

Ole Miss added 4 runs in the top of the 7th to retake the lead at 6-5 but Vandy answered in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 6-6. With the 7-inning game stretched to extras the Rebels scored 1 run in the top of the 8th to take a 7-6 lead. However, the Dores took advantage in the bottom of the frame with 2 runs and secured the 8-7 win over the Rebels.

7 inning games have a tendency to be either shootouts or blowouts. This was the case of game-two of the 3-game series with the Dores. There was an offensive shootout which fell in favor of Vanderbilt. Of course, we look at this crazy game by the numbers.

With the score 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd the Dores responded with 2 runs and took the 2-1 lead into the top of the 4th.

Vandy then added 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th extend the lead to 5-1. Ole Miss added 4 runs in the top of the 5th to tie the game at 5-5. The Rebels then added 2 runs in the top of the 6th to retake the 7-5 lead. However the Dores scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th and retook the 8-7 lead. The Rebels couldn’t rally and Vandy picked up the win and the series.

This was another rough weather weekend for No.4 Ole Miss baseball. Of course, the weather produced another doubleheader situation on a visiting field. While the weather effected both teams Vandy had a significant home-field advantage. For now we’ll look at the second game of the doubleheader and the final game of the series by the numbers.
