No.5 Ole Miss baseball was back in action Thursday night as they hosted LSU in game-one of a weekend SEC series at Swazye Field in Oxford.

No.5 Ole Miss baseball (33-10, 11-8) was back in action after their first midweek loss of the season to Miss State in the Governors Cup at Trustmark Park in Pearl. LSU baseball (25-18, 9-10) came into Oxford off a 8-0 win over Lamar after a series sweep by South Carolina. The Thursday night match-up was the first game of a key SEC three-game series.

Ole Miss got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st with 1 run. The Tigers responded in the top of the 2nd with 1 run to tie the game at 1-1. LSU scored another run in the top of the 3rd to take the 2-1 lead. However, Ole Miss answered in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game at 2-2. The Rebels added 1 run in the bottom of the 5th to take the 3-2 lead into the top of the 6th.

The Tigers tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top of the 6th and then the meltdown happened in the bottom of the 6th when the Rebels exploded with 11 runs to take the 14-3 lead. Ole Miss was able to close down the Tigers and secured the 14-3 win.

This game was a huge win for Ole Miss baseball heading into the series. Regardless of how it went down it was a good start for the Rebels and was a nice bounce back from the Miss State loss earlier this week. Of course, there are still two games remaining in the series and LSU is a really good team. So for now, we’ll enjoy this win by the numbers.
