No.3 Ole Miss baseball was back in action Saturday in game-two of the weekend SEC road series against South Carolina in Columbia.
After being blown out in game-one No.3 Ole Miss baseball (35-13, 12-11) was looking to Saturday’s game-two to possibly even up the series with South Carolina. Saturday would prove to be another tough outing for the Rebels already down one game in the series. The Rebels came up short against the Gamecocks and picked up their second loss of the series.
After two and a half scoreless innings the Gamecocks got on the board first with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Trailing 3-0 the Rebels got on the board with 1 run in the top of the 4th. However the Gamecocks answered with a 5 run bottom of the inning. Leading 8-1 South Carolina added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to extend the lead to 10-1. The Rebels made a stab at a rally in the top of the 8th with 5 runs to cut the lead to 10-6. South Carolina added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th and took the 11-6 win.
Of course, this is certainly not where we expected or wanted Ole Miss baseball to be after two games on the road. However, the weekend series heading into the SEC tourney in Hoover can be a murderers row for any SEC team especially playing on the road. Naturally we hope the Rebels show up today and avoid the sweep by the Gamecocks. For now we look at this loss by the numbers.
