No.5 Ole Miss baseball was back in action Saturday and had a bucket full of brooms ready for game-three against the No.16 Auburn Tigers.
After clinching the series against No.16 Auburn Ole Miss baseball (39-13, 16-11)was hunting the SEC series sweep Saturday. Ole Miss had shutdown the Auburn Tigers (35-17, 13-14) in both games one and two and looked to use that momentum in game-three. Of course, the Rebels were ready for a strong effort from Auburn to avoid the series sweep.
Auburn got on the board first in game-three with 1 run in the top of the 1st. The Tigers then added 1 more run in the top of the 2nd to take the early 2-0 lead over the Rebels. However, Ole Miss answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take the 3-2 lead into the 3rd.
Auburn added a run in the top of the 5th to tie the game at 3-3 but Ole Miss retook the lead with 1 run in the bottom of the 7th. The score was 4-3 when Ole Miss ran away in the bottom of 8th with 6 runs to make the lead 10-3 and secured the win.
The game-three win meant the Rebels swept the series. Naturally we await the rest of the weekend series results to see where the Rebels finish in the west. Of course, the Rebels have one weekend series left with Alabama. The weekend series will follow a midweek road game against Arkansas State. For now we look at this huge game-three series sweep win by the numbers.
