There isn’t a college football fan across the SEC West who won’t dispute what the SEC East has done. They have risen to the top but just couldn’t beat the SEC West when it came down to the national championship game against Bama. Still there are plenty of teams besides Georgia who could rise to the top in the East and give Kirby Smart and Georgia fits. However, at No.1 in the SEC East is Georgia.

No.2 in the east goes to a team whose coach has made a huge turnaround with his team but doesn’t get enough credit. Will Muschamp has been able to make a significant change in the football program thru last seasons success and recruiting. The best is yet to come for the Gamecocks and they could pose a huge obstacle for Georgia this season.

One of the top offenses in the SEC collects the No.3 spot in the SEC East. Missouri is another team which has a young coach tied to the Missouri program and has had recent success. We can expect to see them build on last season and make a run thru the East. No.4 goes to another team whose coach doesn’t get nearly enough credit and that is Kentucky. Mark Stoops has developed a very good defense since he’s been in Lexington. He just needs the offense to stay in gear.

The Dark Horses

No.5 goes to Tennessee. I’d love to give Tennessee a little more credit but with a first year head coach it will be an uphill climb. Chad Morris comes from good stock but if Tennessee had the talent to make a run in the SEC they wouldn’t have a new coach. No.6 goes to Florida who is in pretty much the same situation as they were last season. Although Dan Mullen is a good experienced coach it’s his first season at UF. He will need some time to make the team he had at Miss State.

The Cellar

The one place all of are afraid to go and none of us want to be. The cellar is the absolute bottom of the division and the No.7 spot in the SEC East goes to Vandy. The Commodores just can’t seem to get over the hump under Derek Mason although there is always that chance they will pull a couple of big wins.
