Of course, we have looked at the running back position heading into 2018 and now we look at the TE position. Looking At The Depth Chart
Ole Miss Rebels Football
As of now there are 7 Rebels listed at TE on the Ole Miss roster. Of course, they are led by returning junior Dawson Knox who was the lead TE for the Rebels in 2017. Knox had 24 receptions for 321 yards in 2017 and stands to have even a better season in 2018.
Knox will split playing time with a number of other very athletic ends. Junior Octavious Cooley returns and had a very good spring in .Knox’s absence. In 2017 Cooley had 4 catches for 66 yards. Knox and Cooley are backed up by sophomores Nick Haynes and Jacob Mathis.
Coach Matt Luke and offensive coordinator Phil Longo made some off-season personnel moves by switching QBs Jason Pellerin and Alex Faniel over to the tight-end position. This gives the position both talent and depth with these two additions. Also on the depth chart is sophomore Gabe Angel. Expect this position group to be an intricate part of the Phil Longo offense this season.
Preseason Grade
It’s really hard to emphasize how important this position is in the Phil Longo offense. For the Rebels this position is vital in the success of the offense. We have seen the TE position become a staple under Longo and it will again in 2018. With the experience and depth of this position group they grade out very high. This is a very good group of tight-ends.
