Ole Miss Football: A Look At The 2018 Rebels Quarterbacks
With Ole Miss football just a few short months away OHT is already looking at each position group and handing out preseason grades.
Excitement is building as the 2018 Ole Miss football season draws ever closer. So far we have looked at a number of positions and handed out grades based on depth and experience. There is no greater position for Ole Miss than that of quarterback. Ole Miss has had a standing tradition of great QBs over the years and 2018 is no exception.
The quarterback landscape in Oxford has changed a lot in the past year. Of course, with the transfer of Shea Patterson we will see Jordan Ta’amu under center for the Rebels. In 2017 we saw Ta’amu step up and become the vocal leader for the Rebels fast-paced Phil Longo offense.
This season Ta’amu will have total control of the Rebels offense and we can expect him to put up some big numbers. Of course, he has plenty of weapons at his disposal and should have a great season if he and his offense stay healthy. For now, we look at the depth at the quarterback position.
Looking At The Roster
Ole Miss Rebels Football
There is little doubt of Jordan Ta’amu being the starting quarterback for the Rebels in 2018. In 2017 Ta’amu completed 115 passes of 173 attempts for 1, 682 yards and 11 TDs while only throwing 4 INTs. Ta’amu is very mobile and has a very strong arm and should be mentioned in the best quarterback in the SEC conversation.
Behind Ta’amu there is highly touted freshman Matt Corral. Corral was an early enrollee for the 2018 Ole Miss recruiting class and appears to be the no.2 man heading into the fall. Corral played in the Grove Bowl this spring and went 6 of 16 for 36 yards while tossing 2 INTs.
After Corral there are questions about the number three quarterback. There are only two more quarterbacks listed on the Rebels roster. sophomores Jacob Carter and Grant Restmeyer round out the depth chart for the quarterback position for 2018.
Preseason Grade: A
