Ole Miss basketball underwent some major changes in the immediate off-season with the end of the Andy Kennedy and Matt Insell eras. Of course, Andy Kennedy ducked out before the end of the season and Matt Insell was fired just after the end of Rebels women’s hoops season. Ross Bjork wasted no time in going after two more successful coaches to take their places.

Soon after basketball season ended we saw the hiring of Kermit Davis and Yolett McPhee-McCuin to take over both programs. This has added excitement and anticipation for the two upcoming basketball seasons. Davis and McPhee-McCuin have both taken over highly talented programs which have declined over the past. So far things have been going great for both coaches. Coach Kermit Davis has been on a recruiting roll and coach McPhee-McCuin has been adding staff members. Despite the obstacles which comes from being a new head coach they have both been able to right the ship for both programs in the off-season.

Ole Miss basketball recruiting has energized the men’s program with a full roster. Davis also has commitments for 2019 which will be greatly needed the following season because of gaps left by players who’ll graduate that spring.

Of course, as expected there were players who signed in April who had been recruited by Davis at MTSU while he was still the head coach for the Blue Raiders. Davis brought long-time assistants Win Case and Ronnie Hamilton to Oxford and between the three have a history of recruiting top talent.
