No.4 Back-up QBs

There is no doubt Ole Miss has one of the top starting QBs in the nation and we have to believe he’ll have a great season. However, once you get past Ta’amu there isn’t much experience. Is Matt Corral deep enough into the system he could take over should Jordan Ta’amu go down? If the worst case scenario were to happen we would have to hope Corral would be outstanding but he is just a freshman. After Corral there are sophomores Grant Restmeyer and Jacob Carter. Both are walk-on QBs who have never taken snaps at the DI level although Carter did start at the JUCO level. There is still the option of Jason Pellerin but he is listed as a TE now.

I know some of you are asking yourself why should this even be a concern? Well in 2016 we saw Chad Kelly go down and a freshman had to step in. Although Shea Patterson played well it wasn’t the same after Kelly got hurt. Last season we watched Patterson go down with an injury and Jordan Ta’amu took over. Luckily we had Ta’amu on the depth chart last season. This season we can’t be sure we have another Ta’amu on the sideline. Surely, we couldn’t have it happen three years in a row, however it is college football and strange things do happen.
