Archie Manning, QB

There is no other name which is more synonymous with Ole Miss football than Manning and it begins with Archie. Yes, the Manning name is etched within the history books in Oxford and the effects of the Mannings are felt throughout the Ole Miss campus and the Ole Miss football program. Archie played starting quarterback for the Rebels for three seasons from 1968-1970 and provided fans with some exciting plays. In his three seasons Archie threw for 4,753 yards and 31 TDS while also rushing for 823 yards. His efforts allowed him to be selected to the All-SEC Team in both 1969 and 1970. Manning was SEC Player of the Year in 1969.

Archie was selected in the 1971 NFL Draft as the second pick of the first round by the New Orleans Saints. Manning played for 13 seasons in the NFL with 11 of those being spent in New Orleans. Manning finished his NFL career with 23, 911 yards passing and 125 TDs. Archie also had 2,197 yards and 18 TDs on the ground while in the NFL. Archie was a 2-time Pro Bowl selection. Manning has been honored at Ole Miss by having his No.18 retired and the Manning Center is named after the Manning family. Of course, the No.18 can be seen throughout the campus in Oxford as it is the speed limit.
