No.6 DeMarquis Gates, MLB

DeMarquis Gates played middle linebacker for the Rebels from 2014 thru 2017 and was a beast at the position. Out of Lovejoy High in Hampton, Georgia DeMarquis is one of those Rebels who never seemed to get enough attention. Although DeMarquis went largely unnoticed throughout his career at Ole Miss he put up huge numbers on defense on a regular basis as a tackling machine. Gates is the only player in Ole Miss football history to lead the Rebels in tackling three consecutive seasons.

DeMarquis finished his Rebels playing career with 282 total tackles with 165 of those being solo. Gates also had 17.5 TFL and 6 sacks while being responsible for 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 9 pass deflections. Despite his numbers and ability Gates would go undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. DeMarquis did sign as an undrafted free-agent with the Cleveland Browns but was released on waivers in June. However, we do expect to see DeMarquis Gates on a professional field very soon.
