Ole Miss Football: OHT SEC Power Rankings Heading Into Week-4
No.7 Arkansas Razorbacks (1-2, 0-0)
The Arkansas Razorbacks and first year head coach Chad Morris fell 44-17 to the North Texas Mean Green (3-0) this past Saturday. The Hogs who were hoping to bounce back from a road loss to Colorado State but had no luck against North Texas. So far thru their first three games the Hogs offense has put up 1,206 yards of total offense with 701 yards coming thru the air and 505 yards coming on the ground.
On defense the Hogs have allowed 1,162 yards with 900 yards allowed thru the air but just 262 given up on the ground. This Arkansas team is not a bad team but they just can’t seem to avoid shooting themselves in the foot. The Hogs will have to play better or this could be a terribly long and ugly season for Razorback fans. Arkansas will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to No.9 Auburn (2-1, 0-1).
No.6 Ole Miss Rebels (2-1, 0-1)
The Ole Miss Rebels (2-1, 0-1) fell to the No.1 Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0, 1-0) in a 62-7 blowout in Oxford this past Saturday. Of course, the Tide is very good but the Ole Miss offense could do little against the Tide defense and Saban and the Tide offense dominated the Ole Miss defense the entire game. So far thru three games the Rebels have put up 1,440 yards of total offense with 948 yards coming thru the air and 492 yards on the ground.
The Rebels defense is the biggest issue for coach Matt Luke which has allowed 1,631 yards giving up 1,016 yards thru the air and 615 yards on the ground. The Ole Miss defense has also allowed 130 points thru three games which is the same number of points the Ole Miss offense has scored. Apparently there is no quick fix for Matt Luke and the Rebels defense but if they don’t find an answer it could be a very long season for Rebels fans. The Rebels are back in action this Saturday at home in Oxford against Kent State (1-2).
No.5 (16) Miss State Bulldogs (3-0, 0-0)
The Miss State Bulldogs picked up a big 56-10 win over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns this past weekend. Naturally it was expected to be a blowout and was exactly that. So thru three games coach Joe Moorhead and the Miss State offense have put up an SEC best of 1,763 yards of total offense with 828 yards coming thru the air and 935 yards coming on the ground. While Miss State has very impressive offensive numbers they have come against teams with terrible defenses.
The Bulldogs have a very good defense which has only allowed 777 yards to total offense giving up 522 yards thru the air and just 255 yards on the ground. There is little doubt the Bulldogs will have the defense to compete in their SEC schedule but their offensive numbers are deceiving. Eventually Moorhead is going to have to have a consistent pass game to win games in the SEC. We will be watching this weekend as the No.14 Miss State Bulldogs travel to Lexington to take on Kentucky (3-0, 1-0).
