Ole Miss basketball fans were excited to see the beginning of the Kermit Davis era which began regular season play Saturday.

The long-awaited Kermit Davis era of Ole Miss basketball has finally begun. Saturday in Oxford in The Pavilion the Ole Miss Rebels (1-0) opened their regular season against Western Michigan (1-1) and the Rebels began the Davis era strong. The Rebels defeated the Broncos 90-64 in the season opener which kicked off the 2018-2019 season. This game follows an exhibition game which the Rebels played the previous week which led to a 101-52 win over Fayetteville State.

Ole Miss basketball fans have become disappointed over the past few years with the program, but rest assured this is a much better basketball team than what we have become accustomed to in Oxford. Coach Kermit Davis has a team which is hitting on all cylinders heading into the 2017-2018 Ole Miss basketball season and they are off to a huge start. Why don’t we take a look at the game and start with the numbers?

Takeaways

Naturally with the first game of the regular season it is difficult to gauge the competition level of our season opener. However, after last seasons debacle it is hard to not be excited for the future of Ole Miss basketball. Besides the Rebels having a new head coach who is a proven winner the Rebels have many of the same players from last season and a few new faces.

What we saw Saturday was an aggressive Ole Miss team on both sides of the ball. When you look at the team numbers on defense you have to be excited. The Rebels out-rebounded Western Michigan 31-28 and created 24 turnovers with 15 steals. This Ole Miss basketball will be a fun team to watch this season.
