Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball were back in action Sunday night as the Rebels defeated Chattanooga 90-70 in The Pavilion.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (8-2) have gotten off to a strong start in the 2018 college basketball season. The Rebels came into the Sunday evening matchup with the Chattanooga Mocs (5-7) off a 69-47 win over Southeastern Louisiana and had a four-game win streak under their belts.

The Rebels extended their streak to five games with an exciting 90-70 win over the Mocs on Sunday night. The game was a tale of two halves for the Rebels who saw Chattanooga take a 39-37 halftime lead but the second half belonged solely to the Rebels. Behind a 28-0 second half run the Rebels dominated the second half of play and picked up the 90-70 win. Naturally we look at the numbers and we can see it.

Ole Miss Rebels

When we say the Rebels dominated the game despite trailing at the half we really aren’t overstating the obvious. As a team the Rebels dominated the Mocs in every major statistical category.

From the field the Rebels shot .815 compared to the Mocs .466 performance. The Rebels shot .563 from beyond the arc while the Mocs shot just .524 from three-point range. From the free-throw line the Rebels shot .680 while the Mocs went for just .500 from the charity stripe.

Ole Miss basketball out-rebounded the Mocs 29-28 while only turning the ball over 14 times compared to Chattanooga’s 22 turnovers. The Mocs had just one steal in the game while the Rebels had 11. This game was clearly the Rebels to win.

Senior Bruce Stevens added 15 points while getting 1 board, 1 assist and 2 blocked shots. Sophomore Devontae Shuler added 9 points while junior Dominik Olejniczak added 7 points. Observations

This is a much better Ole Miss basketball program from just a year ago. They are well coached, play fast and can score points in bunches hence the 28-0 run in the second half of this game indicates. These Rebels are still learning the Kermit Davis game-plan but have shown they are resilient and can play to win games. This team still has a long way to go but this is a Ole Miss basketball team all Rebels should be excited about.
