OIe Miss basketball is off to a very good start mainly because of the talent Kermit Davis has on his team and Breein Tyree is one of the brightest.

Monday it was announced by the SEC that junior guard Breein Tyree was named the SEC Player of the Week. Tyree and his 31 point performance in the 81-71 road win over Vandy in Nashville caught the eyes of Ole Miss basketball (11-2, 1-0) and the SEC. In just one game against Vanderbilt Tyree has proven to be one of the very best guards in the SEC.

So far in the 2018-2019 Ole Miss basketball season the Rebels have shown a vast amount of improvement from last season. It has been centered around returning players who have bought into coach Kermit Davis and his demanding style of play. One of those players has been junior guard Breein Tyree and he came thru this past Saturday night and was acknowledged by the SEC.

Even though it was completely a team win for coach Kermit Davis and the Rebels there was the overlying performance of Breein Tyree. Under the Vandy home-crowd Tyree had a career night with 31 points and the Rebels win. 31 points in any SEC game is beyond great but when it is on the road in the SEC opener, well it borders on spectacular.

Besides his 31 points Tyree was also responsible for 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 blocked shot. So far in the 2018-2019 Ole Miss basketball Tyree leads the Rebels in scoring averaging 18.4 points per game and leads the Rebels in 3-point field goal percentage as well. Tyree is shooting 42.6% from beyond the arc.

Out of Somerset, New Jersey Breein Tyree was one of the highlights from last season and has bought into new head coach Kermit Davis’s system and has thrived in the fast past style of play which Davis has been known for before coming to Oxford. So far Tyree has proven to be a catalyst in any game on both ends of the court and we look forward to seeing him get even better going forward.
