Sitting at No.2 in the SEC is not an easy gig with coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball facing his former college team down at TSBU.

After coming off a huge 82-67 win over No.10 Auburn Wednesday night at home Ole Miss basketball (12-2, 2-0) will be back in action Saturday as they face No.14 Miss State (12-2, 0-1) on the road in Starkville. Thus far the Rebels have been playing very well and continue to improve as they play into the 2019 and SEC portion of their schedule.

The SEC is a tough conference and the competition will continue to get tougher. After a 2-0 start in SEC play the Rebels will now be back on the road to try to take down the Bulldogs who are coming off an upset loss to South Carolina in their own SEC opener. The Bulldogs have a very good team and have quality wins over Dayton, Clemson and Cincinnati with their only losses coming to Arizona State and the Gamecocks. We’ll take a closer look at the Bulldogs and some of their key players.

Coached by Ben Howland the Bulldogs are very talented, very experienced and can play on both ends of the court. Leading all Bulldogs in scoring is senior guard Quinndary Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon averages 17.1 points per game while averaging 5.5 boards and 2.8 assists per game as well.

Junior guard Lamar Peters leads the Bulldogs in both assists and steals. Peters averages 6.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game while also averaging 13.4 points per game. Leading the Bulldogs in rebounds and blocks is senior forward Aric Holman. Holman averages 8.7 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 13.0 points per game.

Keep in mind these are just three of the team leaders for the Bulldogs and there are other talented players which Howland has at his disposal. The Bulldogs have a deep lineup and a very strong bench and everybody can score.

Observations

Coming off a loss to South Carolina the Bulldogs will be tough at home in The Hump. We already know the Bulldogs will have a chip on their shoulders and as always the crowd will very rowdy. This is another huge game for the Rebels and not just because it’s against our in-state rivals. This game could be another huge statement maker for coach Kermit Davis and a 10th consecutive win would continue to build momentum for the Rebels moving forward.
