Ole Miss Basketball: Rebels Hoops Head To Face Florida On The Road
Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball will be back in action Wednesday night as they face the Florida Gators in Gainesville.
Ole Miss basketball (14-5, 4-2) will be travelling to face the Florida Gators (11-8, 3-3) in Gainesville Wednesday night. The Rebels are coming off two consecutive losses, most recently to the then No.24 Iowa State Cyclones in the SEC/Big12 Challenge. The loss dropped the Rebels from the Top 25.
The Gators are also coming off their own loss the SEC/Big12 Challenge as they fell 55-50 to TCU. While the Gators aren’t having the success they have grown accustomed to in the past they are still a very well-coached and talented team with their own stars. Of course, OHT will take a look at few of the Gators key players.
Gators Team Leaders
Ole Miss Rebels
Coached by Scott White the Florida Gators have a number of players which are heavily relied upon and are team leaders. Leading all Gators in scoring is senior guard KeVaughn Allen who averages 12.7 points per game. Allen also averages 2.6 boards and 2.6 assists per game. Allen is also the steals leader for the Gators and averages 1.6 steals per game.
Freshman guard Noah Locke leads the Gators in 3-point field goal percentage hitting 41.8% of his shots from beyond the arc. Locke averages 11.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. The Gators leading rebounder is senior center Kevarrius Hayes who averages 6.2 rebounds per game while averaging 6.8 points per game. Hayes is also the Gators block leader averaging 2.1 blocks per game. Florida’s assists leader is freshman guard Andrew Nembhard who averages 5.9 assists per game.
Observations
This will be a tough game for coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball. The Rebels have struggled against longer teams this season and the Gators have a long team despite being incredibly young with just a few upperclassmen. The Gators have a strong bench and will be a difficult win for the Rebels.
This past Saturday we watched as the Rebels were obviously exposed in the paint. While the Rebels improved in the turnover margin they couldn’t make their shots when they counted and Iowa State was hot from the field and 3-point line. The Rebels have to control the ball at both ends of the court to get this win but have to step up their paint play.
We will see coach Kermit Davis and the Rebels back in action Wednesday night but which Ole Miss basketball team we will see is the ultimate question. Tipoff from Gainesville is set for 5:30pm CT and the game will be televised via the SEC Network. Good luck to coach Kermit Davis and the Rebels as they attempt to bounce back against the Gators. Hotty Toddy!
