Ole Miss Football: An Early Look At The Rebels In The 2019 NFL Draft
The 2019 NFL Draft begins Thursday April 25th and Ole Miss football is expected to be very well represented in the early rounds.
Ole Miss football has become a common name in the NFL over the years and in recent years we have watched as a large number of Rebels who have been drafted early. The 2019 NFL Draft will begin Thursday April 25th and several Rebels are expected to go in the early rounds. This year the Rebels could actually see multiple first round picks, as in three first rounders.
Wait what? Yes, in the 2019 NFL Draft the Rebels could see three first round picks and if there isn’t then somebody is losing out. Among all of the Ole Miss Rebels who will be in the draft is the NWO who could see three receivers go in the first three rounds. While we know the NWO is one of the premier WR groups in the SEC and the nation to land three WRs in the top three rounds would be significant but first we look at what we know.
What We Know
Ole Miss Rebels
One thing which is certain is the fact that AJ Brown will be an early first-round draft pick. AJ Brown was one of the top receivers in the nation in 2018 and dominated the SEC in 2017 and 2018. Now as a junior AJ Brown’s playing days in Oxford are over and he is destined to be a first-round draft pick. Where will AJ land remains to be seen but there is no doubt he will go in the first round. There is a very good chance Brown could go within the first ten picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.
When we talk about the NWO we have to look at the other receiver who is expected to go early. Senior DaMarkus Lodge is another Rebels WR who should go in the early rounds. Lodge had a great week in St. Petersburg in preparation for the East/West Shrine game and had several NFL teams watching him.
This past week it was announced DK Metcalf had been fully cleared to take part in the 2019 NFL Combine. The NWO receiver suffered a season-ending neck injury against Arkansas which required surgery. Metcalf declared for the 2019 NFL Draft immediately following the Rebels final game in 2018.
Then there is All-American offensive tackle Greg Little who has been a solid offensive anchor for the Rebels in the past three seasons. Little is considered by most draft pundits as a first rounder and is expected by many to go early . Yes, he really is that good.
Other Rebels To Watch
There are a number of other Rebels who will be taking part in the 2019 NFL Combine which begins February 26th in preparation of the 2019 NFL Draft. Besides the above mentioned players who will be in Indianapolis there is also offensive lineman Javon Patterson, tight-end Dawson Knox and defensive back Zedrick Woods who will be participating.
