Despite the success which first-year head coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball are having the enthusiasm level is severely lacking.

When it comes to Ole Miss basketball and the success which coach Kermit Davis has had in his first season Rebels fans should be excited. At no point prior to the 2018-19 Ole Miss basketball season did any of us imagine this Rebels hoops team would be this good. If you say you did then I will gladly admit most Ole Miss basketball fans really didn’t.

Most college basketball pundits had the Ole Miss Rebels finishing at the bottom of the SEC but this team has come together despite the Rebels two consecutive losses and subsequent drop from the Top25. Yes, we were actually in not just the Top25 but also the Top20 though it was very short-lived in most Rebels fans minds.

Still most of us can admit we had no idea this team would be this good prior to the beginning of SEC play in which Ole Miss rattled off four wins in conference. Yes, the Rebels do have two very ugly losses to LSU and Bama but caught wins over both ranked Miss State and Auburn and blew-out the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Not A Bad Team

Right now the Rebels are struggling to find themselves in the hard part of the court in the paint. While we have seen some wire-to-wire wins from the Rebels we have also see some wire-to-wire losses. However, what we have also seen is a team which can get hot and stay hot. At this point in the season there are teams which are all facing obstacles in the form of consistently tough SEC play.

This team can play with the best of the SEC but have some growing pains with a new first-year head coach. There isn’t another offense in the SEC like this Kermit Davis offense and this team will get better and win more games in 2018-19. However, enthusiasm for this Rebels hoops team is severely lacking when you look at where the Rebels are at and where they were expected to be right now. Thanks to some recent OHT Twitter polls we know.

It’s So Obvious

Under Kermit Davis this Ole Miss basketball team is sitting on the verge of a great season. This team is, not next year or the year after,  likely to be a great season. Right now we have a team which has 12 games left before the SEC Tourney and are hunting for the magic 20th win in order to see a way into postseason play outside of the SEC.

This is a very possible goal for the Rebels who are sitting at 14 wins and a very impressive SEC record of 4-2. The obvious is not really the fact this is a very good team but the fact most Rebels fans have written Kermit Davis and men’s hoops after two consecutive losses. Trust me, as a Rebels fan it can be a difficult ride being a fan but we never give up.

So while we await coach Kermit Davis and the now unranked Rebels Wednesday night on the road in Gainesville, we should all be very happy with what we have seen even with the losses. Keep this in mind Rebels, just give coach Kermit Davis some time to get some more big wins this season and build the Ole Miss basketball brand in Oxford and we will see even more success. The future is bright. Hotty Toddy!
