Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss Basketball were back in action Wednesday night as they hosted the Texas A&M Aggies in Oxford.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (15-7, 5-4) were trying to get back on the winning track Wednesday night as they hosted the Texas A&M Aggies (8-13, 1-8) in Oxford. The Rebels were coming off a 81-75 loss to Miss State while the Aggies were coming off their own SEC loss to No.1 Tennessee.

In a game where the Rebels were trying to break a four-game losing streak Ole Miss took a narrow 37-36 lead into the locker room at the break. In the second half the Rebels relied on tenacious defense and the free-throw line to out-score the Aggies 38-35 and were able to pick up the 75-71 win. Of course, we look at the game by the numbers.

While the Aggies out-rebounded the Rebels 38-30 in the matchup the Rebels were able to limit their turnovers to 12 while creating 18 Aggies turnovers with 14 steals. TAMU had 12 steals in the game. Behind tough defense and free-throws the Rebels were able to outlast TAMU and pick up a much-needed win.

Individual Rebels Numbers

Wednesday night in the win over TAMU there were three Rebels who scored in double-digits. Junior Breein Tyree led all Rebels with 22 points. Tyree also had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in the game. Senior Terence Davis added 19 points while also getting 8 boards, 5 assists and 7 steals. Freshman Blake Hinson added 11 points in the game. Hinson also had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.

Observations

The Rebels were able to cut down their turnovers, make shots when they counted and picked up the win to break the four-game losing streak. Despite the Aggies overall record this was a huge win for coach Kermit Davis and the Rebels. It’s obvious when the duo of senior Terence Davis and junior Breein Tyree can score points the Rebels can find success.
