Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball are coming off their third consecutive win and will hunt their fourth Saturday against Missouri.
Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (17-7, 7-4) will be back in action Saturday as they host the Missouri Tigers (12-11, 3-8) in Oxford and hunt their fourth consecutive win. The Rebels will enter the SEC matchup coming off a 60-55 SEC road win over Auburn while Mizzou enters the Saturday game against the Rebels coming off a big 79-78 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks at home.
This game is a big one for the Rebels who currently sit at 4th in the SEC. With 7 regular season games left before the SEC Tourney every game is important and with No.1 Tennessee and No.5 Kentucky remaining the Rebels need to make the most of each game and get every win they can scrape together. Missouri is a talented team so we look at some of their key players.
Tigers Key Players
Ole Miss Rebels
Coached by Cuonzo Martin the Tigers are loaded with talent and have several key players which they depend on. Senior guard Jordan Geist leads Missouri in scoring averaging 13.8 points per game. Geist also leads the team in assists averaging 3.2 assists per game while also pulling down 4.7 boards per game. Geist also leads the Tigers in steals averaging 1 per game.
Sophomore guard Mark Smith leads the Tigers in 3-point field goal percentage hitting 47.5% of his shots from beyond the arc. Smith averages 12.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Jeremiah Tilmon leads the team in both rebounds and blocks averaging 5.8 boards and 0.8 swats per game. Tilmon also averages 11.2 points per game.
Observations
The Rebels need this home win but will have to continue to play tough physical defense in order to get it. The Tigers are a team who like to play in the paint and that has been a problem for the Rebels this season. If the Rebels can protect the paint and collect rebounds then the Rebels should have no problem making their shots on the other end. The Rebels will need to be physical but have to stay out of foul trouble in order to keep their momentum and pick up their fourth straight win.
Tipoff from The Pavilion in Oxford is set for 2:30pm CT Saturday and the game will be televised via the SEC Network. Good luck to coach Kermit Davis and the Rebels. BEAT MIZZOU! Hotty Toddy!
