Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball will be back in action Tuesday night looking for their fifth straight win as they travel to face South Carolina.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (18-7, 8-4) will be travelling to face South Carolina (13-12, 8-4) Tuesday night in a tough SEC road matchup. The matchup will highlight the SEC’s No.4 and No.5 teams. The Rebels are entering the midweek coming off a 75-65 home win over Mizzou while South Carolina is coming off a 84-77 home win over TAMU.

This is obviously an important game for the Rebels who are looking at the potential of postseason play and need to get to the magic number of 20 wins. With six games left in the regular season every game is important and the Rebels don’t have an easy slate. Of course, the most important win is the next one and Ole Miss will have its hands full with South Carolina. We look at some of the Gamecocks key players.

Coached by Frank Martin the Gamecocks are a very talented team with key players who Martin depends upon. The Gamecocks leading scorer is senior forward Chris Silva who averages 14.2 points per game. Silva also leads South Carolina in blocks and rebounds averaging 2.0 blocks and 7.6 boards per game. Needless to say Silva is a very key player for South Carolina.

Junior forward Maik Kotsar leads the South Carolina Gamecocks in 3-point field goal percentage hitting 50% of his shots from beyond the arc. Kotsar averages 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Freshman guard AJ Lawson leads the Gamecocks in assists and steals. Lawson averages 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game while also averaging 13.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Observations

In the Rebels win over Mizzou we saw tenacious defense. In this midweek game against the Gamecocks the Rebels will have to play tough defense. While South Carolina’s overall record may be just over .500 it doesn’t mean they are a slouch team. The Gamecocks are very well coached and very talented and Ole Miss will need to bring their A game to best the Gamecocks on the road. Minimize their turnovers and force South Carolina to make mistakes and the Rebels should be good for the SEC road win.

Tipoff from Columbia Tuesday night for the Ole Miss Rebels and South Carolina Gamecocks is set for 6pm CT and the game will be televised via the SEC Network. Good luck to coach Kerm and the Rebels. BEAT THE GAMECOCKS! Hotty Toddy!
