Ole Miss Football: DeMarquis Gates Continues To Roll For Express
When it comes to Ole Miss football and the former Rebels players we all love to see our Rebels perform at the next level and DeMarquis Gates is showing out.
The Memphis Express were back in action this past weekend and former Ole Miss football player DeMarquis Gates continues to show his talents at the linebacker position in the AAF. Currently the former Ole Miss player has proven he is a beast in the new AAF leading the entire league in tackles and drawing the compliments of Memphis head coach and NFL legendary linebacker Mike Singletary.
This past Saturday the Memphis Express played the Arizona Hotshots and despite a 12-0 halftime lead the Express fell 20-18 to the Hotshots. In the game Gates had 6 solo tackles and padded his stats as the top tackler in the AAF. Gates also had a fumble recovery in the game against Arizona. Singletary believes Gates is an NFL caliber linebacker and so far his stats show it.
More On Gates
Ole Miss Rebels
DeMarquis Gates has shown Rebels what they had on the field during his four years in Oxford and now he is proving it in the new AAF. Thru two games Gates has 16 solo tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. Gates led the Rebels in three seasons in Oxford and we’ve seen what made Gates a great Rebels tackler over the first two weeks of the AAF.
While at Ole Miss Gates had 282 total tackles with 163 coming solo and had 17.5 tackles for loss. Gates also had 6 sacks and 4 forced fumbles during his Rebels career. Gates was easily one of the best linebackers to come thru Oxford since Patrick Willis and has gained the approval and support of one of the NFL’s greatest linebacker legends in head coach Mike Singletary.
Looking At The Future
While we can’t foresee the future of the AAF we can be sure Mike Singletary knows the linebacker position and he has stamped his seal on DeMarquis Gates as a future NFL linebacker. Gates has been phenomenal thru his first two games in the AAF and is a valuable piece within the Memphis Express hub.
While we watch thru the spring and enjoy the new AAF and the Memphis Express we also watch our former Rebels. So far DeMarquis Gates has been dynamic in the Express and the AAF. Good luck to Gates this week as he will be facing the Orlando Apollos at Orlando. Please check back for more DeMarquis Gates and Express news. Hotty Toddy!
