Ole Miss Softball: Rebels Come Off Road With Blowout Win

Coach Mike Smith and Ole Miss softball finished up the road swing Wednesday night with a blowout win over Central Arkansas.

Coach Mike Smith and Ole Miss softball (9-6) were back in action Wednesday night as they travelled to face Central Arkansas (9-7). The Rebels entered the midweek matchup coming off the Texas Invitational where they won 2 of 5 games and were looking to get back in the win column before returning to Oxford for the Ole Miss Classic which begins Friday and runs thru the weekend.

The Rebels wasted no time Wednesday night as they scored 2 runs in the opening frame to take the 2-0 lead. UCA answered with 1 run in the bottom of the first to cut the Rebels lead to 2-1. After a scoreless 2nd the Rebels added 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd to extend the lead to 4-1. UCA answered once again with 1 run in the bottom to cut the Rebels lead to 4-2 after three frames.

Ole Miss added 2 more runs in the top of the 4th to push the lead to 6-2 and then added 4 runs in the top of the 5th to make the score 10-2. UCA added their final run in the bottom of the 5 to cut the Rebels lead 10-3 but the Rebels poured it on in the top of the 6th with 8 runs to make the lead 18-3 and picked up the midweek win. On the night there were 10 Rebels who combined for 17 hits with 4 Rebels collecting multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was senior Kylan Becker (HR) who went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI. Sophomore Abbey Lathem went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Sophomore Jessica Puk (HR) and junior Kaylee Horton each went 2 for 3. Puk had 4 RBI in the game.

Senior Izzy Werdann, sophomore Kacey Hvitved and freshman Taylor Watford all went 1 for 1 at the plate. Werdann and Watford each had 1 RBI. Freshman Tate Whitley went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI while freshman Mikayla Allee went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. Senior Brittany Finney went 1 for 4 at the plate with 1 RBI.

Sophomore right-hander Ava Tillmann drew the start in the circle for coach Mike Smith and the Rebels. Tillman went for 4.0 innings allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits with 2 Ks and 1 BB. Freshman Savannah Diederich entered in the 5th and finished out the circle for the Rebels. Diederich went for 2.0 innings allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit with 6 Ks and 1 BB.
