Ole Miss football was well represented with nine players at the 2019 NFL Combine and the Rebels rocked the Indianapolis event.

By now you are well aware of the impact Ole Miss football has had on the 2019 NFL Combine over the past week. Nine former Ole Miss players received invitations to the highly anticipated annual event and there is no doubt the Rebels drew the attention of many NFL owners and scouts in Indianapolis.

After DK Metcalf rocked the Combine with a blistering 4.33 forty time and backed it up with a 4.38 second run we knew the Rebels would make a statement in Indy and they did. Defensive back Zedrick Woods also smoked the forty with a blazing 4.29 which was the fastest forty time in Indy in 2019. Of course, there were seven other Rebels participating in Indy and we look at their Combine performances.

When we watch the results from the 2019 NFL Combine we have to keep in mind there are critics around who have done their best to demean the Rebels performances. The best way to grade the results of each player is to do it fairly and OHT uses the stats from NFL.com. You can’t bank on the mass media to get a fair and balanced rundown but OHT tries.

Naturally with three NWO members in the NFL Combine we knew we would see fireworks. Wide receiver DK Metcalf owned the Combine despite what some NFL pundits are spouting on social media. Besides being the Under Armor NFL Combine uniform model DK showed out with the fastest time for a WR in the Combine at 4.33.

Metcalf had a 4.5 twenty-yard shuttle and a 7.38 three-cone drill. Metcalf had a 40.5 vertical with a 134.0 broad jump. DK also wowed scouts with 27 reps on the bench. NFL.com graded DK Metcalf at 6.33 and predicts him to be an instant starter in the NFL. OHT agrees. Nicknamed by NFL scouts as Batman we can expect to see Metcalf as a top WR in the 2019 NFL Draft.

All-American wide receiver AJ Brown  also had a very good Combine performance. While overshadowed by Metcalf in the event Brown put up solid numbers and wowed the NFL scouts in attendance. Brown posted a 4.49 forty and had a 36.5 vertical with a 120.0 broad jump. Brown also had 19 reps on the bench. NFL.com grades AJ at 6.08 and believes he too will be an instant starter in the NFL. Once again, OHT agrees.

Wide receiver Damarkus Lodge was also in attendance and had a good showing in Indy. Lodge posted a 4.55 forty and 4.53 twenty-yard shuttle with a 7.06 three-cone drill. Lodge also had a 33.5 vertical and 119.0 broad jump. Lodge had 11 reps on the bench. NFL.com graded Damarkus at 5.38 and have him as a back-up WR or special teams player. OHT disagrees but we can expect Lodge to go in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Other Offensive Players

Ole Miss has long been known for having great quarterbacks. Senior Rebels QB Jordan Ta’amu is the next great one. Ta’amu received an invite to the 2019 NFL Combine and performed well among quarterbacks. Ta’amu registered a 4.77 time in the forty to go with 27.5 vertical and 109.0 broad jump. Ta’amu also recorded a 4.36 time in the twenty-yard shuttle and a 7.06 time in the three-cone drill. NFL.com grades out Jordan at 4.92 and believes he deserves a shot in an NFL training camp. OHT disagrees. Ta’amu could be a great NFL QB within the right system and could see a fourth or fifth round selection.

All-American offensive tackle Greg Little was expected to shine in the 2019 NFL Combine and he performed to perfection for a big man. Little posted a 5.33 forty which proved he is very fast for his 6’5 and 310lb frame. Little also clocked a 4.74 twenty yard shuttle. Little added a 25.0 vertical and a 113.0 inch broad to cap off his Combine performance. NFL.com grades Little out at 5.95 for his performance and has him having a chance of becoming a NFL starter. OHT disagrees. Little will be a major rookie force within his first NFL season. Little is very likely to be a first or second round draft pick.

Offensive tackle Javon Patterson was another Rebel who had a good Combine. Patterson ran a 5.13 forty which is great for the 6’3 and 307lb lineman. Patterson had a 4.78 twenty yard shuttle and a 7.78 three-cone drill. Patterson added a 27.5 vertical and 98.0 broad jump to go with 27 reps on the bench. NFL.com grades Patterson’s Combine performance at 5.38 and believes he will be an NFL backup or special teams player. OHT disagrees. We believe Patterson could find a starting spot with the right team and will be a middle round draft pick.

Then we have tight-end Dawson Knox who had a eye-opening Combine. Knox is huge for a tight-end and has very good hands which multiplies into yardage when he catches the ball. Knox clocked a 4.27 twenty yard shuttle and a 7.12 three cone drill and 34.5 vertical with 16 reps on the bench. OHT watched as Knox performed very well in all of the drills and NFL.com graded Knox at 5.72 and believes Knox has a chance to become an NFL starter. OHT agrees and we believe he will be a middle round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Rebels On Defense

Safety Zedrick Woods had the fastest forty time in the Combine. Besides running the forty in 4.29 Woods had a 4.15 20-yard shuttle and a 7.0 three-cone drill. Woods had a 34.5 vertical with a 122.0 broad jump and had 19 reps on the bench. NFL.com grades Woods at 4.90 and it is their belief he should be found in an NFL training camp. OHT agrees but we believe his blistering time will convince an NFL team to use a late pick in the draft. With Woods speed it is easy to see him making a NFL roster especially for special teams.

Corner-back Ken Webster also participated in the Combine. Webster put up very good numbers as well clocking a 4.43 forty and a 4.14 twenty yard shuttle to go with a 6.85 three-cone drill. Webster added a 43.0 vertical and 133.0 broad jump and 18 reps on the bench to close out his Combine performance. NFL.com at 5.00 and gives him a 50/50 shot at making an NFL roster. OHT disagrees as Webster is as solid at the DB spot as any player in Indy. We believe Webster makes an NFL roster but goes as a late pick in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft.
