Ole Miss Baseball: Diamond Rebels Take Game 1 Against UAB
Coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball were back in action Friday as they began a three game series against UAB with a win.
Ole Miss baseball (10-3) opened the three-game series in Oxford against UAB (9-5) Friday evening. The Rebels entered the weekend series coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 midweek loss to No.14 ECU and were looking to bounce back into the win column against UAB. Offensively the Rebels turned up the heat and got the big 15-9 win.
UAB got on the board first with 3 runs in the top of the first. Ole Miss scored 1 run in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-1 UAB. After a huge second inning the Rebels had a 10-3 lead heading into the third. UAB answered with 1 run in the top of the frame to make the score 10-4 Rebels. Ole Miss added a run in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 11-4.
UAB added 1 run in the top of the sixth to cut the Rebels lead to 11-5 but the Rebels responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 14-5. AUB answered with 2 runs in the top of the seventh but the Rebels tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 15-7. UAB added 2 more runs in the top of the ninth to make the final score 15-9 for the Rebels.

Against UAB in game-one there were 8 Rebels who combined for 15 hits with 6 Rebels having multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was senior Ryan Olenek who went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI. Junior Thomas Dillard went 2 for 3 in the game while junior Cole Zabowski went 2 for 4 (1 HR) with 3 RBI.
Freshman Kevin Graham also went 2 for 4 (1 HR) and had 4 RBI at the plate. Sophomore Anthony Servideo went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI while junior Grae Kessinger went 2 for 6 with 1 RBI. Junior Cooper Johnson and senior Chase Cockrell each went 1 for 2 at the plate with Cockrell recording 2 RBI.
On the mound junior Will Ethridge drew the start for the Rebels. Ethridge went for 5.0 innings allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits with 1 K and 2 BB. Junior right-hander Taylor Broadway entered the game in the sixth and went 3.0 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits. Broadway had 3 Ks. Freshman lefty Kaleb Hill entered in the ninth and finished out the game. Hill allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits. Ethridge (3-0) picked up the win.
