Ole Miss Basketball: Rebels Set To Open SEC Tourney Against Bama

The SEC Tourney kicked off this week and SEC Coach of the Year Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball will be in action against Bama.

The SEC Tourney is began in Nashville this week and Ole Miss basketball (20-11, 10-8) will be back in action Thursday night. The Rebels open the anticipated event coming off a regular season ending SEC road win over Mizzou which gave the Rebels their twentieth win of the 2018-2019 season. The Rebels will be facing Alabama (17-14, 8-10) to begin their postseason play.

Alabama enters the SEC Tourney coming off a three-game losing streak with the most recent loss coming in 82-70 decision at Arkansas. Despite Alabama’s SEC record they are a very well coached and talented team with their share of big wins. The Rebels and the Tide met once during the regular season with Bama getting a decisive 74-53 win in Tinseltown. The Tide also had wins over Wichita State, Penn State and Kentucky. Coached by Avery Johnson the Tide are loaded with talent and have key players they depend on. Leading the Tide in scoring is freshman guard Kira Lewis Jr who averages 13.9 points per game. Lewis Jr also is Alabama’s assist leader averaging 2.9 feeds per game. Lewis Jr averages 2.5 rebounds per game as well.

Senior forward Donta Hall is another great Tide player who can impact the game. Hall leads Alabama in both field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage hitting 63.8% of his shots from the field and 100% of his shots from beyond the arc. Hall also leads the Tide in rebounds and blocked shots averaging 8.5 boards and 1.7 swats per game. Hall averages 10.9 points per game as well.

Sophomore guard Herbert Jones is another player for Ole Miss basketball fans to watch out for Thursday night as they begin the tourney.  Jones leads the Tide in steals averaging 1.0 takeaways per game. Jones also averages 6.3 points, 3.6 boards and 2.0 assists per game.
