Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball were selected to the NCAA Tourney there are some interesting notes regarding March Madness.
Everybody loves the NCAA Tourney and March Madness and with SEC Coach of the Year Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (20-12) being selected to this seasons field Ole Miss fans are excited. OHT is fired up and we know Rebels fans everywhere are as well so we’ve been doing some digging to find some important notes about the Rebels NCAA Tourney history.
Per OleMissSports.com OHT has learned this is just the ninth time in 109 years the Rebels have appeared in the NCAA Tourney. This is the Rebels first trip to the Big Dance in four years and the No.8 seeding is the highest for the Rebels since their appearance as a No.3 seed in the 2000-2001 season. In the history of the Ole Miss basketball program the Rebels and NCAA Tourney opening opponent No.9 seed Oklahoma (19-13) have met three times with the Rebels taking two contests.
A Look At The SEC
Ole Miss Rebels
From Craig Pinkerton at the SEC we’ve learned these tidbits of information. This seasons NCAA Tourney field includes seven SEC teams which is the second most ever selected. In 2018 there were 8 selections. In 2019 besides Ole Miss there is also Miss State, SEC Tourney champs Auburn, LSU, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee.
This is a very strong field and the tourney should be fun to watch. This will be the Miss State Bulldogs 11th appearance and LSU’s 22nd appearance. 2019 is the third consecutive appearance for Florida. Of course, Kentucky has been selected for the 58th time in their great program history.
Oh The Madness
This is called March Madness for a number of reasons. Each season college basketball fans from across the country become enthralled with the NCAA Tourney and it’s even worse if you have a favorite team playing. Now in this golden age of the internet and smartphones it is easy to follow the tourney and your favorite teams. We will discuss this factor later in the coming days.
2019 is no exception and there are some great bracket challenges out there. My favorite is Sports Illustrated ‘Realtime Brackets’ and this will be the second season for me to exclusively use their bracket challenge. They are quick and easy and give you the opportunity to change your picks IN-GAME for minimal point deductions. If college basketball and March Madness are your thing then you definitely want to check them out. If you do please check out my bracket at Skipper79740. It has some surprises and maybe some ‘homer’ picks.
So its Tuesday and the NCAA Tourney begins with its play-in games. March Madness has begun and coach Kermit Davis and the Rebels begin their tourney run Friday. There is a lot of excitement around the Ole Miss basketball program and OHT wants to keep you fired up. Please be checking back here for more Ole Miss hoops news and updates. Hotty Toddy!
