Ole Miss Baseball: Rebels Take Game-1 Of Midweek Series

Coach Mike Bianco and No.14 Ole Miss baseball were back in action Tuesday as they faced UAPB in Game-one of a two game midweek series.

Coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball (15-6, 2-1) were back in action Tuesday at Swayze Field as they took on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in game-one of a two game midweek series. The Rebels were coming off a series win over Alabama while UAPB (2-17, 1-8) was coming off a series losing sweep with Grambling.

On Tuesday Ole Miss got on the board first with 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early 4-0 lead. The Rebels then added 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 10-0. The Golden Lions added 1 run in both the seventh and eighth innings to cut the Rebels lead to 10-2 but the Rebels closed out the game in the bottom of the eighth with 2 runs to get the 12-2 midweek win. In game-one of the midweek there were 4 Rebels who combined for 7 hits with one Rebel having a multiple hit game. Leading all Rebels at the plate was senior Ryan Olenek who went 4 for 5 with 5 RBI in the game. Sophomores Carl Gindl and Anthony Servideo and junior Grae Kessinger all went 1 for 3 with Kessinger recording 1 RBI.  Sophomore Tyler Keenan and juniors Thomas Dillard and Cole Zabowski all had 1 RBI each in the game. Senior Chase Cockrell also had 1 RBI at the plate.

On the mound sophomore left-hander Jordan Fowler drew the start for coach Mike Bianco and the Rebels. Fowler went for 7.0 innings allowing 1 earned run on just 4 hits. Fowler had 6 Ks and 2 BB. Red-shirt junior right-hander Ray Falk entered in the eighth and finished out the game on the mound for Ole Miss. Falk went for 1.0 innings allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit with 1 K. Fowler picked up the win in the contest.
