While we can’t be very sure of how coach MacIntyre’s defensive personnel will line up we can be sure the defense will look much different from what we have been used to seeing. Coach MacIntyre is a 3-4 defense guy who has seen a tone of success with the scheme in the past. For Ole Miss football fans this is an exciting change from what we have seen the last two seasons and could be the re-emergence of the vacant Landshark defense.

From what we gather out of Oxford the Rebels are adjusting to the new defense and have responded well to the new scheme and the staff changes which came with the introduction of a new defensive coordinator. Coach Matt Luke and MacIntyre added former Ole Miss DC Tyrone Nix and Jeff Koonz to the Ole Miss staff and both are linebackers coaches which will pose well for the new defensive look.

The Inside

Needless to say in the 3-4 defense the four starting linebackers are very important to the success of the scheme. When you look at the 3-4 you see two inside linebackers and two outside linebackers. OHT looks at the inside personnel first with junior Mohamed Sanogo  and senior Willie Hibbler who are both likely starters for the Rebels.

Also available in the spring on the inside are junior Donta Evans and sophomores Josh Clarke, Jaquez Jones, Amani Johnson and Zekerrion Baker. OHT is also watching for the freshmen within the Rebels depth chart. Eyes are on Ashanti Cistrunk, Andrew Griffith, Eric Jefferies and Truett Bourne which could all see playing time in the Mike Mac 3-4 defense.
