Coach Mike Bianco and No.20 Ole Miss baseball were back in action Friday as they travelled to face Mizzou in the first SEC road series of 2019.
Coach Mike Bianco and No.20 Ole Miss baseball (16-7, 2-2) were travelling for the first SEC road series of the 2019 season. The Rebels were set to face the Missouri Tigers (14-8) coming off a 25-0 midweek blowout of UAPB. Bianco and the Rebels found the going tough with cold bats and fell 2-1 in Columbia.
Missouri got on the board first with 1 run in the bottom of the first and took the 1-0 lead thru the fourth inning. Ole Miss tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth but the Tigers answered with 1 run in the bottom of the frame to take the 2-1 lead and ultimately the series opening win over the Rebels. OHT takes a look at the loss by the numbers.
By The Numbers
Ole Miss Rebels
In game-one there were 5 Rebels who combined for 7 hits with 2 Rebels recording multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate were sophomore Tyler Keenan and senior Ryan Olenek who both went 2 for 4. Freshman Knox Loposer went 1 for 3 with the Rebels only RBI in the SEC road game. Juniors Cole Zabowski and Grae Kessinger each went 1 for 4 at the plate.
On the mound junior right-hander Will Ethridge made the start going for 5.2 innings allowing 1 earned run on 8 hits. Ethridge had 5 Ks and 2 BB. Junior right-hander Austin Miller entered in the sixth and finished out the hill for Mike Bianco and the Rebels. Miller went for 2.1 innings allowing 1 hit. Miller had 3 Ks and 1 BB.
From what we’ve seen so far in the 2019 Ole Miss baseball season we know that the Rebels have good pitching which is still trying to find itself. In game-one the Rebels pitching staff picked up where they left off against UAPB but the Rebels were stymied at the plate. When this Rebels team connects with the ball they are very good but we’ve seen some slumps at the plate.
Coach Mike Bianco and No.20 Ole Miss baseball are back in action Saturday against Mizzou in game-two of the weekend SEC road series. First pitch is set for 2pm CT and the game will be replayed at 7pm CT on the SEC Network. Good luck to coach Bianco and the Rebels. Hotty Toddy!
