Naturally we want to know what Matt Luke thinks of his new staff and the impact they have made so far with the new Rebels on campus and available for spring practice. Last week Matt Luke met with the media and had some updates for us. So far so good as far as Matt Luke goes this deep into the spring and of course he is excited moving forward after spring break with his new coaches and players.

According to David Johnson of OMSpirit, when asked about the progression of the Rebels with new schemes Luke replied, “I don’t think you’re ever where you want to be. When you get here, you want to go there. When you get there, you want to go here. We’ve got a lot of young guys out there. Creating the mentality and the toughness in the team…that’s what we’re hunting right now…and the physicality.”

When asked about the offense Luke responded, “Probably maybe a little bit ahead, because of all the walk-through’s that we were able to do before spring practice started.” So far it seems all systems are go with the exception of some injuries. Coach Luke informed us of both TE Jason Pellerin and OT Alex Givens being green shirted which means non-contact for both. In an interesting twist LB Jonathan Hess was moved to the TE position. While Givens has been in a green shirt Bryce Mathews has been taking first team reps.
