Ole Miss Baseball: No.21 Rebels Fall Short In Game-one

Coach Mike Bianco and No.21 Ole Miss baseball were back in SEC action on the road for game-one in the weekend series against No.8 Arkansas.

No.21 Ole Miss baseball (18-9, 3-4) was back in action Friday night as they travelled to face the No.8 Arkansas Razorbacks (22-4, 6-1) in Fayetteville. Coach Mike Bianco and the Rebels entered the SEC weekend series coming off a midweek win over the Memphis Tigers. The Rebels were on the SEC road the previous weekend as they dropped the series to Missouri.

Friday night the Razorbacks got on the board first with 2 runs in the bottom of the first to take the 2-0 lead. The Hogs then extended the lead to 4-0 with 1 run in both the bottom of the second and third innings. In the top of the fourth the Rebels scored 2 runs to cut the Hog’s lead to 4-2. The Hogs extended the lead to 5-2 with 1 run in the bottom of the fifth. The Rebels added 1 run in the top of the ninth but fell short in a 5-3 loss. OHT looks at game-one by the numbers.

In the 5-3 game-one loss there were 5 Rebels who combined for 6 hits with 1 Rebel recording a multiple hit game. Leading all Rebels was junior Grae Kessinger who went 2 for 4 at the plate. Freshman DH Kevin Graham went 1 for 3 in the game while junior Thomas Dillard went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI. Juniors Cole Zabowski and Cooper Johnson (1HR) each went 1 for 4 and each with 1 RBI at the plate.

On the mound junior right-hander Will Ethridge started and went for 5.0 innings. Ethridge allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits with 4 Ks and 2 BB. Junior right-hander Houston Roth entered in the sixth and finished out the night on the hill for Bianco and the Rebels. Roth pitched 3.0 innings allowing 0 earned runs on just 1 hit. Roth had 5 Ks and 2 BB. Ethridge (4-2) picked up the Friday night game-one loss.
