Ole Miss Softball: Behind Walk Off Grand Slam Rebels Even Series

Coach Mike Smith and No.22 Ole Miss softball were back in action Saturday as the Rebels faced off in game-two of the weekend series.

After a marathon 15 inning Friday night game-one No.22 Ole Miss softball (23-9, 4-3) was back in action Saturday in game-two of the weekend SEC series. Friday evening the No.6 Florida Gators picked up the game-one win which went 15 innings. In game-two coach Mike Smith were looking to bounce back into the win column and even the series.

In game-two Saturday the Rebels jumped on the board first with 1 run in the bottom of the first to take the 1-0 lead. After 2 scoreless innings the Rebels added 2 more runs in the  bottom of the third to take the 3-0 lead into the fourth. In the fifth the No.6 Gators scored 4 runs to take the 4-3 lead heading into the sixth.

The Rebels responded with 1 run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 4-4 game and forced the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded and 2 outs sophomore Abbey Latham came to the plate and nailed yard for the walk off grand slam to take the 8-4 win and even the Top 25 SEC series. In the 8-4 win for No.22 Ole Miss softball there were 5 Rebels who combined for 8 hits at the plate with 3 Rebels recording multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was freshman Tate Whitley who went 2 for 4 in the game. Sophomore Abbey Latham (1HR)  who had the walk off game winner in the 8th went 2 for 5 with 5 RBI.

Senior Kylan Becker went 2 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI while freshman Mikayla Allee went 1 for 1. Sophomore Jessica Puk went 1 for 4 at the plate and junior Autumn Gillespie had 2 RBI in the Rebels win.

In the circle junior left-hander Molly Jacobsen drew the game-two start for coach Mike Smith and the Rebels. Jacobsen went for 7.0 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits with 9 Ks and 2 BB. Senior right-hander Brittany Finney entered in the eighth and finished with 1 K and 1 BB.

Coach Mike Smith and No.22 Ole Miss softball will be back in action Sunday as the Rebels face game-three in the weekend SEC series against No.6 Florida.
