Ole Miss Softball: No.18 Rebels Pick Up Midweek Run-Rule Road Win

After a huge weekend SEC series win coach Mike Smith and No.18 Ole Miss softball were back in midweek road action in Nashville.

Coach Mike Smith and No.18 Ole Miss softball (25-9) were back in Tuesday as the Rebels travelled to face Belmont (19-15) on the road in Nashville. The Rebels were coming off a huge SEC series against No.6 Florida in which the Rebels came back from a tough game-one loss to earn wins in both game-two and game-three to pick up the SEC Series win over the Gators.

Tuesday the Rebels wasted no time in finding their groove scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning to take the 2-0. After a scoreless second frame the Rebels then added 6 runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 8-0 headed in the fourth.

It the top of the fourth the Rebels added 1 run to make the lead 9-0 but Belmont answered with 1 run in the bottom to cut the Rebels lead to 9-1. Ole Miss then added 2 runs in the top of the fifth to push the lead to 11-1 and ultimately pick up the run-rule win. OHT looks at the midweek win by the numbers.

In the midweek road win there were 8 Rebels who combined for 11 hits with 3 Rebels finding multiple hit games at the plate. Leading all Rebels was sophomore Abbey Lathem who went 2 for 2 at the plate with 1 RBI. Sophomore Amanda Roth (1HR) went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI while sophomore Ally Mena also went 2 for 3 in the win.

Senior Izzy Werdann went 1 for 1 with 2 RBI at the plate while senior Brittany Finney (1HR) went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI. Freshman Mikayla Allee also went 1 for 2 at the plate. Senior Kylan Becker and junior Kaylee Horton each went 1 for 3 in the game with Horton recording 2 RBI.

In The Circle

Sophomore right-hander Ava Tillmann drew the midweek start for coach Mike Smith and the Rebels. Tillmann went for 4.0 innings allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits with 2 Ks and 1 BB. Sophomore left-hander Anna Borgen entered in the fifth and closed out the circle for the Rebels. Borgen went for 1.0 inning allowing no hits with 1 K.

Coach Mike Smith and No.18 Ole Miss softball will be back in action Friday evening as the Rebels face No.22 Kentucky on the road in Lexington.
