Benito Jones

In the new 3-4 Mike Mac defense you can imagine how important the 3 down linemen are in the defensive scheme. Over the last two seasons we watched as the Ole Miss defense was porous at best and bled in the both run game and the passing game. The defensive line, though big and talented, were usually out-manned and man-handled on the line. There was little pressure up front and it cost the Rebels in games.

This Saturday while we are watching the new 3-4 in action Rebels fans will be watching each snap and where the contact begins on the defensive line. We are looking for physicality and penetration up front and Ole Miss football has some big men on the defensive line. Senior Benito Jones is one we should all be watching. In 2018 the 6’1 and 326lb Jones finished with 39 tackles, 4.5 TFL and 0.5 sack. This Saturday we want to see if Jones is the guy at NT and will be the anchor for the defensive line. Jones is also one of the OHT favorites for the No.38.

Next. The 2019 Grove Bowl. dark

Saturday coach Matt Luke, with his new staff, and Ole Miss football will hit the field at the Vaught and we will see the 2019 edition of the Rebels. While we may not see a lot we will be watching to see who steps up and forward to becoming a Rebels great. Kickoff for the annual Grove Bowl game is set for 3pm CT and is the highlight of a huge weekend in Oxford. Good luck to all of our Rebels Saturday. Hotty Toddy!
