Ole Miss Baseball: No.18 Rebels Open Home Series With Win

Coach Mike Bianco and No.18 Ole Miss baseball were back in action Friday night as the Rebels hosted the No.16 Florida Gators.

After an embarrassing midweek loss to North Alabama coach Mike Bianco and No.18 Ole Miss baseball (21-10, 6-4) were back in action Friday night. The Rebels opened a three-game weekend SEC series against the No.16 Florida Gators (21-11, 4-6) and were looking at getting back on track with a huge game-one win at Swayze Field.

After a scoreless first two innings the Gators struck first with 2 runs in the top of the third inning to take the 2-0 lead. The Rebels got cranked up in the bottom of the frame with 3 runs to take the 3-2 lead into the fourth inning. Ole Miss then added 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 7-2.

Florida answered with 2 more runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Rebels lead to 7-4 but couldn’t find the plate in the rest of the game. After a scoreless sixth the Rebels added 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to push their lead to 9-4. The Rebels then added 3 more runs in the bottom of the eighth to extend their lead to 12-4 and ultimately picked up the game-one win. OHT looks at the game by the numbers.

In the 12-4 game-one win there were 9 Rebels who combined for 17 hits with 7 Rebels collecting multiple hit games. Leading all Rebels at the plate was sophomore Tyler Keenan (1HR) who went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Junior Thomas Dillard went 2 for 2 while senior Ryan Olenek went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Junior Cooper Johnson (1HR) went 2 for 4 with 5 RBI while junior Cole Zabowski (1HR) went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI. Sophomore Anthony Servideo went 2 for 4 while junior Grae Kessinger went 2 for 5 in the game. Senior Chase Cockrell went 1 for 3 while freshman Kevin Graham went 1 for 5 at the plate.

On The Hill

Regular Friday starter junior right-hander Will Ethridge took the hill first and went for 3.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 1 K and 3 BB. Coach Mike Bianco went to the bullpen in the fourth and junior right-hander Tyler Myers entered. Myers would finish out the game for the Rebels going for 5.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 4 Ks. Myers (2-0) picked up the win.
