Ole Miss Baseball: Rebels make moves in national polls
Coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball had a huge weekend as they picked up the SEC series sweep over the No.16 Florida Gators in Oxford.
Coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball (23-10, 8-4) have been on a roll. While we have seen the Rebels take some tough losses this season they have responded well and have gotten so much better in such a short time. After beginning the SEC portion of the schedule with a series win over Alabama the Rebels dropped the road series at Missouri.
The Rebels shored up some weak spots within the pitching rotation and the batting order and bounced back with a road series win at No.8 Arkansas. After a midweek hiccup against North Alabama the Rebels once again responded well this past weekend hammering out 49 hits and scoring 40 runs thru the three-game series sweep of No.16 Florida. Now the Rebels are getting more national attention.
Moving On Up
Ole Miss Rebels
This past weekend the Rebels were ranked at No.18 but after the Florida sweep the Rebels have found themselves jumping up in the national polls and rightly so. The Rebels hammered one of the best pitching staffs in college baseball and made a statement against the Gators.
Monday the new college baseball rankings were released and the Rebels saw themselves make jumps in the different national polls. In the USA Today baseball Top25 Coaches Poll the Rebels moved up three spots to No.15. Of course, there are other college baseball polls to look at and see how Ole Miss baseball turned out.
In the DIBaseball.com Top 25 the Rebels moved up seven spots from No.18 to No.11 in the poll. In RPI coach Mike Bianco and the Rebels saw a six spot jump from No.30 to No.24. The Rebels biggest move was in the PerfectGameUSA rankings where they jumped nine spots from No.19 to No.10.
Observations
With college baseball its hard to put a lot of stock in rankings when there are so many out there. Its college baseball and any team can beat any team at any time. We watched it last week in the midweek loss to North Alabama. However, we know this is a very good Ole Miss baseball team which still has a lot of work to do but will get better as the season continues. We watched the results of hard work and dedication this past weekend against Florida.
Coach Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball will be fun to watch while they are just beginning to turn on the heat. The Rebels will be back in action Tuesday evening as they head to Pearl to take on Southern Miss. First pitch is set for 6pm CT and the game will not be televised at this time. Good luck to coach Mike Bianco and the Diamond Rebels! BEAT USM! Hotty Toddy!
